YouBloom - Blew me away

Misc No Comments »

YouBloom is a community-based platform created by artists for artists and their friends and fans.  Established to support unsigned talent, YouBloom's Vision is to enable musicians and artists to fulfill their potential, building and connecting them directly with a wider audience and – importantly – helping them to make a living.

Last night I had the pleasure of attending one of their awards cermonies, complements of my good friend Paddy Cutliff, where a number of bands \ artists performed live.

Aside from rubbing shoulders with the likes of Sir Bob Geldof, YouBloom founder Phil Harrington, International A&R music legend Nigel Grainge, songwriter & music producer Rupert Hine etc.  I also got to listen to and meet some amazing new and up-coming talent!!  There were no cover bands or karaoke queens here - this was the real deal!!!

QR Code Service Project - Part 1

jQuery , ColdFusion , QR Code Service Project , HTML5 5 Comments »

Just to clear things up and to get things started, I thought I'd formally introduce a little project I'm working on which I have, for now, ingeniously named the "QR Code Service".

If some of the details look like you're reading a Wikipedia article then please forgive me but I have used some summarised references from there as my source of information.

Objective:
The objective behind this project is to create a common interface \ facade for utilising and implementing some of the existing APIs out there that provide QR Code creation and decoding functionality for your projects.

It is not intended to facilitate your own code creation and decoding without requiring a 3rd Party service on your own server for this phase although whilst doing some research for this project I discovered that Ryan Stille has already created a project called 2DBarcode_j4l which uses the J4L Barcode Package.  I may at some stage decide to implement this into the project but for now I will stick to using my chosen 3rd Party service providers for now.

I will implement a solution for each provider one at a time and when ready release each individual class \ component as part of the entire project.

Microsoft Office 2007 MIME Types with Apache and IIS

I was working with a 3rd Party file service \ handling provider and came across an issue whereby when I uploaded a Microsoft Office 2007+ document the "detected MIME type" was being returned as "application/zip".

Turns out there's an easy enough fix for this for their servers.  Simply update the web server to include the new \ incorrect MIME types.

Also, if anyone feels that this blog and the content I provide, and for anyone who knows me my contribution to the community, is worth nominating for ACC, then please feel free to do so ;-)  Honestly, I won't be offended whatsoever ;-)

jQuery Textarea NobleCount Plugin Addition - Prevent Paste

jQuery , Javascript 2 Comments »

Firstly, thanks to Jeremy Horn A.K.A. The Product Guy for the jQuery NobleCount plugin.

I've had to use it recently and found it to be quite good, so I've decided to contribute back also.  Nothing much but a possible addition for preventing users from pasting charaters into the relevant textarea and bypassing the keyboard events. See below:
